Default 97 1.8T won't start

On four separate occassions over a period of three months I've had starting problems. Each time the car had been in the garage and I started it up without problem for only 30-60 seconds to move it. Each time, hours later when I went to start the car after it had been sitting the starter would engage, the engine would turn but it would not kick over. Eventually after trying, waiting and trying 5-10 minutes it would start with an abundance of smoke and fuel smell blowing out the muffler (would seem to indicate it was getting gas). After the third time this happened I brought it back to Audi they claimed a bad oxygen sensor and replaced it under warranty. Now it just happened again only weeks after that repair. The car's inability to start seems similar to when a car is not getting spark to the plugs. Anyone with a similar problem?

Check the archives! This is always the case when the car is only kept running for a short time. Don't do it.

Try removing the gas cap and then flooring it when you turn the key. (You should still have the problem fixed, but this might at least start the car.)
