Default 97 Audi A4 has no AM radio reception... HELP!

I'd like to fix an issue with no AM in my A4. The stock antenna plug won't fit generic radios so there is some kind of an antenna adapter in the car right now and I'm wondering if that is the issue.

I don't have the original radio any more so I can't test it without the adapter. I've had a couple different radios in it and neither had AM so I don't think it's the radio's fault.

Anyone experienced this and resolved it???

Default What's AM? Hell, what's radio?

I have the same kind of adapters (Euro > Motorola and back) with an FM modulator in the middle. I noticed a decrease in FM range from radio stations, but I never listen to AM at all. When I use the modulator, I have no interference issues with it set on 87.9 FM.

Nothing a signal amp can't fix.

Default CD>AM>FM

no iPod, though it would be nice to get one. just dont think I would use it enough to justify the purchase.

Default I thought the same until I got one. My car lacks CD altogether, so I still had to tether one in

I have a second gen 8 GB Nano that's great. Fits my hand well, solid state means no moving parts and long battery life, and no video support means you won't look like a tool trying to watch Scrubs while you sit at Starbucks.

Default There is a antenna amp in the rear - so matching the wires is important

you need to get a bentley manual

Default I pods don't give you traffic reports.

Thanks for the replies. Sure phat noies is great but when you are in Vancouver BC you need 1130AM for traffic weather and news especially when you are roaming data on your treo and don't have navigation with traffic updates.............

I have a bentley and have actually removed the c pillar before. My antenna adapter is in the center console and it serves as a connection to the deck that is currently in the car. Are you saying perhaps that the AM amplifier may need to be replaced???

Thanks lots.
