What did they do in the end, just re-program, or were parts also replaced? I am having the same issue, but I can't get to the dealer as I can't hold a stable throttle and engine dies if i take the foot off the pedal...looks like I will have to look for a towing platform...so annoying.

P.S. Did it cost you an arm and a leg?

Probably just a throttle body calibration. Can be done easily with VAG-COM.

Disconnecting the battery wipes out the throttle alignment memory. This causes P1545. P1544, and P0123 errors and ****ty running.

An easy fix is:

Press gas pedal to floor, turn ignition on.

hold for 30 seconds.

turn key off, release pedal.

Clear codes with your VAGCOM. No need to register.

Start engine normally.

This worked on my 99 A4 2.8. You can also use registered Ross-Tech.

Silly me, I think there is an instruction in the owner's manual to turn on the ignition for 1 minute before starting if the battery has been changed.

Hello all,
Just acquired a 99 Audi A6 which has the problems described below. Just ordered VAG-COM in hopes to reset EPC. Did try all other suggestions, including this below, which was a bit confusing as I did not know if I was supposed to a) Press pedal down to floor, turn key to ignincion...Or B) Use VAG-COM along with it or either or...

Thanks for your help

Alex

From what I remember the press the pedal routine did not work properly.
In the end I had to register VAG-COM and run TBA with the engine not running.
Throttle Body Alignment (TBA) - Ross-Tech Wiki
This assumes your A6 has cable throttle like the 99 A4.
