A4 1.8T need advice

I have an 1999 Audi A6 Avant with the 2.8.. Ive been through all the common problems from the TCU going for a swim to the alternator that takes 6 hours... I gave this car to my wife after designating it the family car then i went shopping for myself.

I just bought a 1998 A4 1.8T.. The immediate problems were the ignition switch and rear wheel bearings. The car also has an exhaust leak between the manifold and turbo. Previous owner opted to over tighten the 2 of the bolts and snap them off in the turbo rather than replace a gasket. Im looking to upgrade the turbo since the car has 200k and a ****ty previous owner... What is the best turbo? and where should i buy it? What else should i replace along with the turbo? BOV?? I dont want to just buy a bunch of ebay parts.. I want a little more power and want to start with a new turbo, exhaust and blow off valve.. Any advice on my options is appreciated

With the engine having 200k miles, I wouldn't consider upgrading to a bigger turbo. I would find another stock K03 turbo, quite possibly a used one but in good shape. The last thing you want to do is spend 3-4000 on a turbo setup.

I would just get a stock K03 turbo. A K04 will require ECM software to go along with it. If the broken studs still have a shank sticking out once the cat is pulled back, then your may be able to get them out with vice grips or stud remover. If you change the turbo, change the oil feed line also.

The system already has a diverter valve, which doesn't make a cool noise when you shift gears, but also doesn't change the A/F ratio. Lots of people just upgrade the DV.

Thanks for the help. So, where should i look for a rebuilt stock turbo?

I'm curious to see what people think of that splitter or if anyone has any experience with it...I was looking at the exact same thing and it seems (through pictures and descriptions) to be the same as a Forge one without the Forge name one it. Half the price though! :)

Fitting that it's half price, as it is only half as bad as a BOV.

Yeah, was afraid of that...what about it is more likely to fail?

I think you miss my point.

I don't know about the quality of the piece. Am an speaking to the intelligence of installing something like this on your car.

Skip.
