Default A4 2.8 vs. BMW 328 resale values

I was curious about the difference in resale values between the A4 and the BMW 328i, since I am considering these two vehciles. To my suprise, they are pretty equal. I thought the BMW would depreciate slower than the Audi.
Below is what I found using Kelly Blue Book's web site. Each vehicle is in excellent condition, and equipped equally, except the Audi is a Quattro, the BMW has traction control, and the BMW has two power seats instead of one. I'll list all of the options that I used below.
1998 BMW - $34,000 (retail) $29,000 (wholesale)
1998 Audi - $32,385 (retail) $27,235 (wholesale)
1997 BMW - $30,750 $25,450
1997 Audi - $29,195 $23,900
1996 BMW - $28,390 $22,735
1996 Audi - $25,940 $20,750
Each vehicle is equipped with the following options:
Manual transmission
Air Conditioning
Power Steering
Power Windows
Power Door Locks
Tilt Wheel
Cruise Control
AM/FM Stereo
Cassette
Dual Air Bags
ABS
Leather
Dual Power Seats (Audi only has driver power seat).
Sun Roof
Do yourself a favor and make your choice based on the test drive rather then the resale value. I also was trying to decided between these two models. After the test drive of both on the same day (15 min. apart) the Audi was the clearly my choice. I ordered my 99.5 A4 the next day. Good luck. Bernie.

Look at a dealers lot- you'll see they ask ALOT more for the 3. I'm not sure about trade-in, but around these parts, expect a $6-7k diff. My dealer is selling 95 325iA's for $27,500

You have to be STUPID to buy at these prices!

The numbers are from Kelly Blue Book, so believe they are generally correct. Of course, a dealer can ask anything for a car. It doesn't mean they will get it. Also, the amounts are based on my zip code (southern California), so your area may differ.
Check out Kelly Blue Book's web site (www.kbb.com) for more information.
Ryan

Rob -- Just because a dealer puts a shockingly ridiculous price on a used car (27.5K for a '95 325), certainly doesn't mean he's going to get it. True, Audis have generally depreciated faster than BMWs since the great "unintended accerlation" fiasco, but according to several mags Ive read Audi depreciation is really improving, mainly because the A4 is a worldwide success story.
BDW 1.8Tqms
