a4 manual owners: regret not getting the automatic? automatic owners: regret not getting the manual?

Nope. The only time I wish I had a manual was during stop light drag races.
The rest of the time, I love the tiptronic. Oh, and this is my first automatic in 15 years of driving. Maybe that's why.

I've never owned an auto. hands down the manual is more fun, but a pain in the a$$ for some people
in traffic. I really don't see it as a problem. I enjoy the control of the car, especially in the curves of the "fun" roads. We had an auto Grand Cherokee and I didn't mind driving it, but there was no joy in driving it. It hauled stuff, big deal. We've since sold it and purchased a 2001 Jeep Wrangler Sport; 5 speed was a definite option we both wanted.
I only wish my A4 had a 6th gear! It needs one.

I agree that a manual is more fun than a 'regular' auto, but the tip is nearly as fun...
the only really bad thing about it is the long gear ratios. It shifts as fast or faster than most people can shift a 5sp manual..

yes I regret not getting the manual, that's the only thing I don't like about my car now
Driving a german manual transmission is so rewarding and effortless. Coming from a Japanese manual, I didn't want another manual because it was such a workout. Since then, I've driven numerous Audi/VW manuals (including the somewhat difficult S4) and miss it tremendousely.
I think it has alot to do with your daily driving conditions. If you're constantly stuck in traffic I think you'll come to hate it. If you can enjoy some open curvy roads on your daily commute the manual will reward you on every shift.
