Default A4 STEREO question/problem

recently, i've upgraded my stereo system at the tweeter stereo center.
the installer first told me it was impossible to change my symphony system (2001 a4) without getting a new headunit.. however, my friend who has a same car had his stereo installed (2amps, pair of component, and 2 subs) at the same place so the installer was "able" to put the same system in my car without changing the headunit. (i'd hate to change my headunit since i think it looks very nice)
however, a week into modification, the front speakers stopped working.. it's weird because the stereo (front speakers) work fine when the front door is opened, but stops working when the door closes. the subwoofers are working fine regardless of door opened or not..
is there some sort of a problem with audi stereo?
i heard from variety of sources that audi is a very tough car to modify your stereo system.
mine seems like some sort of a electrical problem.

Default Good god, do you know what they did?

The easy way is to just use the Blaupunkt adapter and you're all set. Do you know how they hooked it all up? Did they cut your harness, splice, line out converters, etc...? If you could describe the install, it would be easier to start pointing towards potential solutions.

Default I'm getting 2x12" subs installed on the factory delta unit...

Nothing's impossible. Now, is this the best way to do what i'm doing? Probably not but if i were to change my headunit i'd have to lose the cd changer and that would suck.

Default It's probably just a loose speaker wire...just bring it back and let them look at it.

As far as replacing the head unit...well, I've got a 2000, and I kept the factory head unit...new amp, sub, and front components. No problem. There are line outs on my factory head unit. The other solution is the hi to lo converter (Blau adaptor that someone else mentioned). I don't know what's so tough about this particular Audi. As far as I'm concerned, mounting the front speakers is tough, the rest of the install is no big deal.

Default Take the car right back there and show them the problem...

It most probably has to do with a loose connection/crimping right at where the wiring meets the speaker.

The difference in your cars (you and your friends) may be that you have the upgraded Bose system? and your friend doesn't. When you have the upgraded Bose system, speakers are working on a different impedence that is uncompatible with aftermarket headunit outputs.

Default AHHHH tweeter FIRE FIRE... Sorry,

but I still have not gotten the wires that melted fixed from them drilling into them..

There is an adapter you can get, but you need to switch out all your speakers when you do it. The headunit is fine and works fine, but everything else in the car needs to be replaced if you wanna upgrade...

Default The Blau Adapter is not a line out converter...

It's a simple plug in that gives you RCA's where you used to have the line out signal.

I've been thinking it was a high to low converter that fit in the factory plug for over a year now!! Doh!

Default I know this doesn't help, but I agree that audi's have fussy stereos/electronics. The best bet

is to remove EVERYTHING, and start from scratch. That's what I did, and I've never had a single problem. The only thing my system gets from the audi electrical system is power to the headunit and whether the lights are on. Everything else is new (power wire, speaker wires, RCA's).
