ABS + boost problem
hey, hows eveybody doin. im new to this forum and new to audi and can say one thing, audi makes a great machine! I recently bought a 98 a4 1.8t fwd. I love the car, but i have two problems. Numder one is i got no boost pressure. Number two is whenever i go on the highway and reach aprox 70mph the ABS light comes on and the red brake light comes on and blinks.

You need a boost gauge to confirm the vacuum/pressure amounts. More details are needed to help you further.
ABS lights are on, you have codes stored. Retrieve the codes and report back. No, a generic scanner or AutoZone cannot help you with this. A VAG-COM is required.
Also, FWD? Why?

I bought a boost pressure gauge and installed to comfrim the issue. its a definate that i dont have boost. any pointers, or where to start testing components. im am a newly certified subaru tech, but i seems that audi is a whole new world, so all sugg.welcome and appreciated.

i did all that already, no leaks. i dont have much turbo experience, i do have a good education on prelimary checks . do you have any help beyond the basics? like maybe components assoiciated with this kind of issue. thanks

Primarly we see the L-hose that runs along the side of the manifold pop. The suction jet pump that connects to the brake booster is another common culprit.
The wastegate valve at the front of the bay near the turbo could be bad, or the diverter valve that connects to the turbo's cold intake pipes could be blown.
Finally, there are several oneway check valves, like five I think, that can fail and cause massive boost loss.
I still don't understand why someone would want a FWD Audi. That's just silly and they shouldn't even make one IMO.

It's a half a$$ed Audi at best. I've driven a FWD and it's not even comparable to the AWD. Having a solid rear axle just feels awful and dull compared to the AWD.
It's little more than a Passat with rings instead of VW.
Also, seriously? "i would probably out take you on the road course awd or not". Sounds like something a Subbie guy would say.
All I asked was a question, why someone would knowingly buy a FWD used Audi. Especially someone who drove Subbie's that are just like Audi: A vast majority are AWD and why would you get anything less?
