Default ABS Sensor

Hey I am getting ready to purchase a 01 TT and there is one known issue with the car the current owner says
A sensor on the front
drivers side went bad and triggered the ABS light.

has anyone ever experianced this, how much would it cause to fix?

Default Read post below. $199 for a rebuild, cheapest I've heard of yet.

To buy a new one will cost you anywhere from $1200 to $2400. You'll have to take it out of the car and ship it off to be rebuilt. It should be better than new if it's done right. And, yes, you can drive without it in the car (the module on front of the ABS pump that is).

Might try the TT forum. ABS wheel speed sensors for the A4 are about $150

Default Even though your in the wrong forum...

Ill help ya out..

That ABS sensor is the same sensor all MK4 jetta's and golfs use so even a VW dealer would have it for a list price of $60.88 in stock. An easy swap. Part # 1J0-927-803

Default Yup, but it is often thought to be the trouble when it's actually the computer.

I know a local shop that put two rear pass side sensors on a 1998 A4 within 3-4 months only to find it was the module that was actually bad.

They just read the codes and it said wheel sensor input missing or something (can't remember exactly what they told me) I was in there talking to the techs and I mentioned to them that it is very often the module that is bad. They replaced that and the car has been fine since.

So it's hard to say....

Default There is a way to tell...

And most shops dont have sophisticated enough tools, but you can read reference signal (RPM) from all four corners with the car on the lift or going down the road to locate a bad sensor.

Default My bad, I misread his email. I automatically go to the modual when I hear "ABS"

because I went through checking all of my sensors when I started getting that light. Forgot all about the wheel sensors.
