Default AC Clutch Plate Fell Off

As I pulled into work today, it sounded like someone was working with a jackhammer. It stopped when I turned the car off. I opened the hood to discover that the AC clutch plate fell off and it was rubbing on the crank pulley. Using a long stick and duct tape, I was able to retrieve it from the topside.

The clutch plate is a little chewed up but I can salvage it if I can find a bolt and shims. The dealer sells a clutch pack that includes everything from the compressor out for, get this, $850. All I need are a couple skinny washers and a bolt. Anyone have their dimensions?

Has this happened to anyone else? What did you do?

Why not just buy a used compressor and swap the clutch over?

I will do that if all else fails. I would rather not spend $50 on a boneyard compressor for $2 of parts.

I forgot to mention in my earlier post. This is a 98.5 A4Q, AHA engine, Nippondenso compressor.

I am going to be swaping my clutch this weekend time permitting. I got a used compressor and removed the clutch, their were no shims in the one I removed. the end cover is held on by a 10mm bolt then the pulley is held on with a C-Clip, then the electromagnet which is the part I need to swap has another clip, mine is also a 98. I could probably send you the parts when I am finished next week.

Thank you for the information. Based on what you told me I was able to figure out that the bolt must be an M6 (6mm). I'm not sure about the length though. I thought I had it sized properly, but it bottomed out before contacting the clutch disc. Maybe that is what it is supposed to do. I put some blue threadlocker on the bolt before tightening, so it may (hopefully) be a long term fix. At least the AC clutch engages and disengages without incident and the AC now works.

If you would check the length of your bolt (the threaded part), that would be all that I need at this time. If it loosens up I will replace it. Next time I do a timing belt, I will replace it the proper length bolt. With my giant meathooks, it is tight to work on from underneath or above the vehicle.

Thanks for offering to send the bolt. Truly a kind gesture.
