Default adding an on-board computer display

HI. I have an A4 1.9 TDi 1998 but it doesnt have an on-board computer display and i want to add one. My question is does my car have the necessary wirings and sensors already installed so i can just connect the display and it will work properly showing outside temp, fuel consumption, warning indicators, CD-changer tracks and everything else or i must add them additionally.

Default Nope..

It would take countless hours and lots of money to get the trip computer to even function.

Not only that, I believe the TC gets its information from the ECU, not the sensors directly. So if your ECU isnt capable (which it already isnt) of receiving and sending the proper information for a trip computer, then its totally out of the question. The only way that I think you would be able to make someting like that work is to use an ECU from a later model year with the trip computer ( Not sure how easy you can find an ECU from a TD/NDBW car) and try to code the ECU to your software coding. If thats possible, the trip computer still wouldnt work, the ECU would then JUST have the capability to make it further work. IMHO, its way too expensive of a project to do for just a trip computer. If the guys ever get the V1 to work with it completely, then i would do solely for the V1 display.

Its still not as easy as that but that would be the only way to get a TC to work in a non-TC car.

Default Re: Nope..

thanks a lot but arent all audi a4 cars' ECUs suitable for the trip computer and is the only reason some of them not to have one that the TC is an option when buying the car. For example if a TC (only the display) costs to Audi $100 they want for this option $1500. I think all ECUs can support a TC because it's cheaper for the manufacturer to make all audis with identical ECUs and just add the display when necessary. I'm not sure about what i'm saying now but i just think so.
