airbag indicator light fix question

My airbag light came on about a month ago after my alarm went off when I took a flier off my windshield which someone had left under my wiper (I had already opened the car and leaned over the A-pillar). Could I have triggered the alarm that way? Is the airbag linked to the alarm?

The dealer reset the indicator once and it came back on a week later. Now he says the driver's side igniter is reading low resistance and the airbag has to be replaced. Has anyone had this done? Do they have to tear apart my dash or steering wheel? I fear my car will never be the same...new creaks and rattles and who knows what else!

TIA

Re: airbag indicator light fix question

I had mine replaced only a few months after I picked up my '99 1.8T. Nothing to sweat about. No rattles or clangs... :)<p>--
