Airbag light problem
has anyone had a problem with their airbag light coming on sometimes. Then it goes away again.
is this hard to fix? does this mean my airbag isn't working?

when its on your airbags will not work.....
my friend had a 96 2.8 where everytime he would honk his horn the airbag light would come on and stay on. He wound up disconnecting his airbags. I dont recommend you do this but it would take care of the light. : - )

My airbag light came on a while back. When I scanned it I found a problem with the driver's side seat airbag.
I couldn't clear the code, and after trying to clean the wiring contacts under the seat (per many, many posts on this site), I called the dealer for an estimate.
The airbag is ~$400 and installation is ~$400. I did read a few posts regarding Audi of America paying for the repair as a gesture of goodwill. I decided to give it a try.
Basically, this is what I found out:
-The airbag system will not operate in any way when the light is on.
-Audi will not let the dealers replace the crappy side airbag connector under the seat. Probably has something to do with liability. So the airbag has to be replaced as a unit.
-The posters who had AOA pay the full cost of replacement were luckier than I was. But they still covered half of the bill for me. Better than a sharp stick, as my Dad used to say.
