Alternator came in..it is a little broken...

Does it look ok? After looking at a little closer it looks like the wires beneath the broken plastic have been broken off the little copper tab...
I am teh sad now
Should I file a claim with FedEx?

*sigh* if the shipper didnt put extra insurance on the box what options do I have?
I have never had an issue like this. I was really hoping that I would have my car back this weekend...argh...

It's about "customer service." A good vendor will do whatever it takes to satisfy you....
That includes dealing with UPS/USPS/FEDEX screwups and leaving you out of it.
In return, you purchase products from them again. And again, etc.

If not packaged just right, alternators are very easy to damage in transit.
Numerous times I've found that a new or reman alternator was damaged on it's way to me. Varies from seized shaft to separated connector for volt meter. I think the only reasonable packaging I've ever seen for an alternator was layer upon layer of cardboard squares with a centered hole, even that wasn't what I'd call brilliant as it allows the ends where the most sensitive parts of the unit are to be damaged if it is dropped even a little bit. The weight of the alternator relative to the brittle plastic used is the problem IMO.
