A4 (B5 Platform) Discussion Discussion forum for the B5 Audi A4 produced from 1995-2001 B5 FAQ

Anyone know if the NAV option for 2002 A4 will require as many CDs as today's NAV system in A6/A8?

No - the old system used CDs. Acura has the whole country on one DVD on their system.

Default Current nav is CDROM based. Some aftermarket nav systems are DVD based.

I think a DVD based system will require a lot less disk fiddling, but I really doubt Audi "upgraded" their systems.

I didn't know that. Audi should get with the program. DVD is the way to go for something like this.

Default but on the lighter side of things...

the OnStar system offered in the Audi is supposed to be the most advanced to date. You may have seen the new OnStar now offers voice activated internet among many other things. A salesman who was at the new A4 training got to play with the system and he said it's amazing. Truely ahread of everone elses NAV/OnStar systems.

It also offers digital cell phone itnegration. The new Audi digital cell is a Motorola V phone (the tiny flip model) and with the 2002 OnStar it offers voice activated dialing and will read your phone book for display on the LCD.

99.5 and up cars are apparently ugpradeable to the new OnStar system. The only feature you wont get that I know of righ tnow is the voice dialing with the cell phone.

The OnStar system isn't going to be out till Jan, nor will pricing (which interests me). What does the existing NAV system cost?

Too much. WAY too much. It's well over a grand IIRC if you buy the parts.
