Anyone yet figured out why the 2002 chip puts out 270 lb/ft while the 2001 chip puts out less?

Default Anyone yet figured out why the 2002 chip puts out 270 lb/ft while the 2001 chip puts out less?

What are the engine differences?

Default

1.3 bar vs. 1.0 bar. Get a Neuspeed 1.3 bar for the 2001 and you'll have about the same perf.

Default Boost does not always equal tq and I am sorry but the 1.3 chip from Neuspeed is nothing special

over the GIAC and apr chips. If anything the Neuspeed has less power in the upper rpms.

Default Is there... perhaps... an upgrade for my GIAC chip? Since my 2001.5 has the lower compression...

... it should handle the higher boost better than, say, a 98 1.8T, no?

Default Which brings me to another question...

At the higher RPMs, it seems as if the wastegate is blowing open and dropping the boost. While this may be by design, is there a way around this with the stock K03? Is this controlled by the chip? And is changing the wastegate behavior something that people have looked into?

Longwinded, I know... but any thoughts are appreciated.

Default I believe it is the turbo that you would be putting at risk, not the engine..

not necesarrily dangerous to run higher boost..but probably not the best idea for a daily driver

Default I don't see how you can say that there's not a direct relationship between boost and torque...

True, the neuspeed chips use variable boost pressure and therefore, aren't going to be running 1.3bar the entire time, but still... at max boost a 1.3 bar chip is going to out-muscle a 1.0 bar. Plus, that variable pressure mechanism is a good thing for the safety of a K03.

Default Technically there is, but there isn't...

in the case of the A4, the KO3 can only take so much boost in it's efficiency range. Boosting more will increase heat, which will thin the air, causing the turbo to work even harder. It's not that the 1.3Bar will hurt the engine, it will hurt the turbo.

IE, the Subaru guys were actually posting quicker quarter mile times with 16PSI than 18PSI.

Also... back to the original question... are the 2002 and 2001 1.8T engines mechanically different?
