APR Stage I: I'm underwhelmed
After 4+ years of reading this forum, I finally had the APR chip (91 octane) installed in my 1.8T MY99.5 (non-DBW).
It is definitely not the pants-creaming exprience that most have reported.
Mainly, where is the boost? The only time I see the boost reach above 10psi is in 5th gear around 3500-4500rpm under WOT. I understand from this post that boost varies with gear and engine load, but shouldn't I be seeing a boost improvement in lower gears as well? Because it never reaches above 5psi until I WOT it in 5th.
I installed a new Bailey BPV at the same time as the chip, and checked all my hoses. The VAG tool shows no faults. The best I can do is 12psi under WOT in 5th. Yes, she pulls harder than before, but only above 60mph.
Is something wrong with my car?
Is this a case of poor expectation management on my part?
Because most of the time, I barely feel a difference from stock.
TIA.

well I am kind of spoiled b/c I have friends with 450+ whp cars...
so I feel like EVERYTHING is slow. Even stageIII S4's.
But I don't consider any chip upgrade a "pants-creaming" experience. If you do think that way, you obviously dont have any idea what real power or acceleration is. It just makes the car peppy. I have the 93 octane, and its WAY more fun to drive than stock. I believe its a worthwhile mod. But "pants creaming" is WAYYYY overkill. You won't see over 12psi probably because of the 91 octane. You can run higher boost at 93octane without experiencing knock. What are you getting for airflows. I push about 163g/s of air at peak. I would have to expect that you see a difference over stock, though I have never driven a 91octane chip.
Also, you should be seeing around 12psi at WOT in most gears until like 5500rpm
Just remember...
Boost is phat..
But Airflow is where it's at...

doesn't sound right, its not pants creaming but definately better
I just got mine installed this Thursday myself. I feel alot more power from about 2500RPM when the turbo spools up all the way to redline. The most torque definately comes early on as the plot on the apr page shows.
