Auto being used like a stick-PROBLEM??

I have a 96 Q w/ auto and of course a 12v. I find that I get better performance if I do some manual up shifting and/or keeping it 2 or 3rd at lower speed to keep the rpm up. Does this harm the tranny?

AFAIK, it shouldn't harm the transmission...

...I remember reading in Car and Driver that most of their editors shift automatic trannys in the same manner. It wasn't clear, though, whether they do this to their own cars, or just their test cars (which by the way go back to the manufacturer when the test is over). I used to do the same in my '83 Escort, and it did eventually die, but not because of the transmission.
Bottom line is, I'm not a mechanic, so don't sue me if your car breaks, but I don't see a problem with it.

-vik
99.5 1.8tqms

A friend used to do this with his T-Bird SC...after a few months his transmission started slipping.
