With any survey results it's important to see what questions were asked. I try to be much more transparent than CR or JD Power. Can you find either of their surveys online? What questions do they ask?
Mine's here:

Similarly, we post all reported repairs, so you can see the specific issues that were behind the numbers.
I'd like to provide an additional set of stats, for the number of severe issues, but this will require much larger sample sizes. Severe issues are rare these days except for very old cars. And the more rare something is, the larger the sample size you need to meaningfully measure it.

I'll be honest, this is hard for me to fill out. One reason is because my car always has something wrong with it and two, I fix anything that needs fixing. I don't care how big or small - if it's broke, I'll fix it. If it's almost broke, I'll fix it. My car has always started. I've also never spend more on maintenance on any car. Even though my BMW gives me zero problems, I still consider myself an Audi guy. I hope nobody is buying one for reliability or for minimal maintenance. They are awesome cars and an PITA to service.

We've updated the results for the B5 A4 to include owner experiences through December 31, 2009. In terms of repair trips per 100 cars per year:
2001: 133, about average, but small sample size
2000: 138, about average
1999: 67, better than average but very small sample size, likely not accurate
I have been noticing that people report fewer repairs than expected for many cars 2001 and older. Stats should still be comparable within a model year, but comparing them to newer cars could be tricky. It's something I plan to look into further. It's possible that Todd is the exception rather than the rule, and that somewhere around 100k many people stop fixing minor items.
Thank you, once again, to JET, this forum, and everyone who has been helping. We'll have further updates in May and August. With more participants, we could provide more precise information and cover all model years.

We've updated the results for the B5 A4 and S4 to include owner experiences through March 31, 2010. In terms of repair trips per 100 cars per year:
2001: 120, about average, but small sample size
2000: 162, worse than average, first year of S4
1999: 70, better than average but very small sample size, likely not accurate
Everyone who has been helping, thanks. We'll have further updates in August and November. With more participants, we could provide more precise information and cover all model years.
I'd also like to post separate results for the S4, but again this will require more participants so that I can split the sample.

Thank you, I appreciate it.
Older cars are harder to provide accurate results for. A larger number of participants helps.

Updated stats in a few days.
We continue to have fewer participants for the B5 than for the B6 and up. Once we have more owners involved it will be possible to post separate results for each engine, like we're now doing for later generations.

We've updated the results for the B5 A4 and S4 to include owner experiences through June 30, 2010. Other sources of car reliability information won't cover the more recent months until the summer or even fall of next year.
Repair frequencies, in terms of repair trips per 100 cars per year:
2001: 89, about average, but small sample size
2000: 181, worse than average, first year of S4
1999: 80, better than average but very small sample size
Thank you, once again, to this forum and everyone who has been helping. We'll have further updates in November and February. With more participants, we could provide more precise information and cover all model years.

got an 1999 a4 b5 facelift, never let me down, except the comon problems that appear after 150k km, clutch, front wheel multi-link arms, filters...
45000km without a problem, always started, never stoped on the road.
