B5 A4 slack with gear lever when in gear
yo whats up lads
i just got a 1997 a4 2.8 manual and ive noticed that the gear lever has a decent amount of side to side motion when im in gear. its not a major issue but it makes shifting feel less precise and id like to try and fix it myself.
if anyone has any solutions that'd be great, ive been looking this issue up and i cant really find a definitive answer.
thanks

This is quite a common problem...
The issue here is most likely the bolt that secures gear linkages to the rod that goes into the gearbox. These twnd to loosen up ober time and cause play.
Simply jack your car up and have a quick look around there, tighten the bolt up with the car in neutral, and all will be well again.
Another issue could be the bushings on the linkages, these are abit of a hasle to replace.
