B5 hood latch 1 - rally 0
Just spend over and hour under the car with a flashlight and thin, long poker. I can just see bearly enough of the latch to make out where it is, but not which tab I can hit, push, pull etc.. The rad fan connectors and wires are in the way as well.
If I can't get this with round two, with some other means of poking and prodding.. I might have to just rip the bumper off, take the IC piping off and pull the front end into service position. I still can't believe I forgot the damn cable. bah humbug!! |
sorry to hear but I LOL'd pretty hard at that opening sentence...
|
I would have pulled the bumper to start with. You would have already been done by now
and it would have taken you less than an hour.
|
This is actually a problem that I can picture a dealer encountering
Maybe they could offer some advice? Seems like they'd come across this problem when repairing crashed cars.
|
why not just pop the grill out?
I broke my hood latch a couple of weeks ago. I popped the grill out to finally open it up and found I only needed to clean up the mechanism to get it to work smoothly again. I put a zip tie on the remaining piece of the pull so that it only comes out when I pull the release from in the car.
|
he has trouble ,I believe because of the way that bumper mounts and the FMIC
I would make a tool from a cheap screwdriver bent in a "U" to try and pry the grille tabs free.
|
Can't you only release the tabs from the back?
which means you need the hood open
|
Bingo. Which means breaking the Rs4 grill. I would rather not.
|
I got mine out from the outside
maybe some of my grill tabs are broken. But it's back in there with no issues.
|
hmm so you popped the grill out? couple tab casualties but all good?
I'll have to make a second go at it tomorrow after work.
