Default Best way to attain A4 performance goals?

Goals:
1) Plenty of "Go" at low revs
2) Beat an S4 w/a slushbox
3) Beat a CL-Type S, also w/a slushbox

My questions about attaining those goals:
1) Possible w/a 2.8 and G2? I love the sound of a V6, and a 2.8 may be the only car I can find within a reasonable amount of time.
2) Best way to go with a 1.8? Stage3, PES's T-28, or even K04?
3) If one is not clearly the best, which are the contenders?

Not aiming to start flames, just still on the fence about getting a 97-98 A4 or a new 2.5RS.

Default I'll stick my neck out for this one...

...if you go the 2.8, make sure you get 98 or newer as the G2 PES SC is only available for the 30V 2.8. With that, you'll have a good chance against a slush box S4 and CL-Type S.

As for the 1.8T, oh g*d here goes, you'll have little chance w/ the KO4 against the two. Best bet is on the SIII or a custom T28 setup. Not sure anymore if PES is still working on that, but I heard that it's been put on the back burner.

*ducks, runs, and hides...*

Default Option 1 is clearly the best, and a yes in all categories... but it will require a 98' or newer

Honestly, the PES G2'd 2.8 will be quieter +
more civil when you want it to be than any
1.8T -- some older 1.8T's don't have sound
deadening.. besides, the new SC from PES
is pretty quiet.. and consistant - no lag.. and
its quick too.. but seriously, why not look into
financing a used S4 6 speed instead? Look into
a 00' S4 -- they should be relatively cheap considering
the first and second years are when the cars depreciate the most.
Also, the A4 is changing... that must have a neg
effect on the used S4 market....
however, of all your other choices.. the PES
2.8 is the best choice. Not to mention you can
get power leather sport seats with a 98' 2.8 Quattro.
However, if you were talking about a new car..
I'd say neither.. unless you got some dough, I'd
just get a stock S4.. the weight savings of a
1.8T engine isn't worth the voided warranty IMHO.
that is, unless you got the dough to cover it if
anything goes wrong.

Default Anytime you mod, you run the risk of warranty being voided...

...assuming the mod can be tied to the part failure. i.e. dealers cannot void warranty part and repair for control arms because of a chip, or turbo or anything unrelated.

Default point I was getting to:

would you rather risk voiding the warranty on
a 30 some thousand dollar car where you can *just*
make the payments alone, or a car worth half that...
or maybe even less than half?

that was my point. I'm kinda comfortable modding
my car at this point. If I had to, I'd consider
salvage parts if it hits the fan. But on a
brand spankin new 30+ thousand dollar car?!? I'd be $hitting bricks..
know what I mean?

Default Warranty is no issue in my case

Pretending I got an Audi-Assured 97 1.8, the warranty would expire towards the end of 2001 anyway. If I got a 98, it'd expire sometime during 2001. I wouldn't miss out on much.

Default the 30V wasn't available until 98?

I'll have to keep that in mind. I have two reservations about the G2: supercharger whine and the fact that PES doesn't give any real numbers. The website spouts "295HP" but does not say at what rpm, nor does it give torque numbers. The issue of whine may be entirely in my head - I've never heard a G2 equipped car.

I threw in the K04 option as a distant possibility, but I didn't think it would be a contender. It's just not torquey enough to run with the S4 (it seems).

So for the 1.8 my options are: Stage3, PES T-28, or a custom T-28? There is nothing else in the works that may be available in, say, 9 mos?

Default Used S4 is not an option

Used S4s in good condition are too hard to come by, at least in the northeast. Financing is not an option since I'm still in college. There's also the issue of my friend having just bought a used S4 (picked it up 6 days ago) and this being a fairly blatant one-upping of him.

Now, one-upping my brother and his CL-Type S? No qualms about that. The sooner the better :-)
