Brake assist failure during reverse help!
Hi Everyone,
I have a 2001 A4 Quattro which has an issue with braking assist during reverse operations after the car has been sitting for less than 2-3 hours. I usually have to push the brake pedal all the way to the floor to slow and stop the car. The vehicle didn't exhibit this issue until about two months ago and the dealer still hasn't fixed it. The vehicle was purchased around 12/2005 with @62,000 miles. It now has @70000 miles.
The vehicle is a certified CPO car and it's been a battle with the dealer, but that's another post. The dealer has done a brake flush and replaced a rubber grommet coupler that connects two vacuum hoses at the top of the bulk head and it still does the same thing. The brake pads and rotors are within Audi limits according to my local Audi service manager.
Any ideas?
Thanks!

Um, don't really know, but...
If you don't get your answer, give us some more info.
Manual/Auto?
(if it's auto, see if the symtoms exist when drifting backwards in nuetral. I can't imagine the selected gear ever being a problem, but it can't hurt to try.)
Sitting for LESS than 2-3 hours? Does that mean it doesn't happen if it were to sit overnight?
Good luck.

Re: brakes are serious business without brakes you cant stop
Hi Everyone,
For added information:
I have an automatic tiptronic transmission. If I leave the car sitting for more than 2-3 hours (especially overnight), brake assist fails until I place the transmission in drive, then there's a slight pedal drop and the system works normally. By the way, braking is available, it's just that I have to go to the floor to slow down or stop the car in reverse after sitting for a while.
I have filed an official complaint with the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration. If you have the same problem, please file a complaint so Audi will recall and fix the vehicle for all of us with this safety issue.
Audi is willing to fix the car for out of pocket cost versus using the certified warranty. They faxed me the items covered and in my view it's covered, so after many phone calls and not giving up, they covered it. Unfortunately, it's still not fixed after 4 visits. It's to the point that they are trying to scare me away by asking me questions like, "did you buy the car from us?", "what type of oil did you get when you had it changed", etc. They're trying to get rid of me and my problem, but I don't give up easily. The only problem that I have is that there's only one Audi dealer in about 100 miles. The certified warranty has no restrictions on where it goes for service.
Thanks,
GP

Is the problem only when the A/C is on?
I have the same problem on my 2000 A4Q tip 1.8 but only when the A/C is on. I had the car checked last year, but they couldn't find anything. I didn't realize the problem is only when the A/C was on until recently. The car will now go back for them to deal with it is still CPO'ed.
