Brand New alternator and belt, 6 month old battery, battery light coming on.
Just replaced the alternator. Got everything put back together tonight. Started the car and no idiot lights. Drove the car down the road about a mile or so and during the turn-around the battery light flashed on for a split second while the car was at idle. Headlights on of course. On the return trip to my house, the light came on and stayed on. Voltage meter immediately dropped to 12 and stayed there until I made it home. What else should I check? Cables look good and I know I connected everything up to the alternator correctly because I checked the connections ten times before zipping everything back up. Have a charger on the battery right now to make absolutely sure the battery isn't too low and putting too much of a strain on the alt. Any ideas guys?

Re: I am going to guess aftermarket alternator
Yes, Auto-Zone. I knew better, but...... Well. No excuses. I knew better. Anything else it could be? I hoping I don't have to tear everything down again. Can't I test the alt while it is still on the car with a voltage meter?

I'll let the battery charge overnight. If the light is still coming on in the morning, then I'll pull the alt and have it checked. If it shows bad, I'll purchase one from the dealer. The alternators are internally regulated, aren't they? It's the Valeo equipped.

Good God no!!! Don't buy from the dealer! Get a new Valeo for about $200 versus $600+ at the dealer.
Just skip on the remanufactured stuff and you'll be fine.

https://forums.audiworld.com/a4/msgs/2847677.phtml</a

As I said, check all wire connections first. I think one guy here did about six autozone nators before giving up. The B5 S4 guys replace regulators pretty often, but I usually just do the entire nator.
