Broken hood release cable, additional trouble
Good evening. I’m currently on vacation in the mountains of New Mexico. My car is a 2001 Audi A4 B5 1.8t. The hood release cable is not opening the hood. I suspect it has become unattached as there is a loud noise that I feel must be caused by the cable being in contact with the fan. Thus I can’t drive the car or feel I shouldn’t risk getting the cable caught up in pullies, etc. I have tried for hours to release the hood by the “under the car method” with no success. I have removed the grill in hopes of accessing bolts to remove the upper hood latch. Herein lies my question....if I can successfully remove the bolts holding the upper part of the latch mechanism to the hood, should the hood then open? I don’t want to cause more problems if this won’t allow the hood to open.
I am pretty much stranded until I can figure this out or have to pay for an expensive tow to someone who still can’t help me out. There are no dealers or mechanics knowledgeable with these cars anywhere near me. I sincerely thank you in advance for any help offered.
