Default Bumper cover removal. I know it's been discussed before

but I can't seem to find it. I've got the bumper off. I know I'm going to have to drill out the plastic welds that hold the bottom of the the cross piece to the cover. But how do I handle the rivets (I think they are rivets) that hold the top edge of the cross piece to the bumper cover? Are there any picture showing this. I just don't want to get it off and not be able to put it back together.

thanks

If you take the cover off the aluminum bumper I think you will have to glue it back on.

Default Unfortunatly nothing cool, like an aftermarket cover but to

be able to drill out and retap the screws I snapped off that hold the license plate holder. There is a little bit of screw left, the distance between the cross piece and the outside of the cover, which makes it impossible to drill out with the cover in place.
Once I get the cover off I can grind the screw down flush with the cross piece and then drill and tap.

Default Unfortunately what other said is about right, you'll have to glue it back on

Most aftermarket bumpers come with a tube of industrial adhesive. I have one in front of me, it's Sikaflex-227 left over from my Rieger side skirt install.

Default Glue? Thats how you guys with new bumper covers do it.

Shouldn't I just be able to re-rivet it?

Default To remove the cover you cut off the heat formed 'rivets' along the bottom. How would you propose

making them re-appear?
I suppose you could use heavy duty rivets to replace the aluminum ones removed along the top but that would still leave the bottom flapping in the breeze.
Bumpers like the Reiger use a heavy duty contact cement to secure them to the cross bar. 3M makes one that you can find at most autobody supply stores.
