Buying High Mileage A4 2.8 Thing to look out for?
I'm looking at possibly buying a used 96 2.8 A4 5sp, leather interior, green, with 83k miles. The dealer is offering it for $15k (or in dealer speak $14,990) down from his original $16k offer. It's in good superficial condition, but the only Audi mechanic in the area is the dealers ! Is there anything I should be careful about? Reading the forum I should see if the timing belt and water pump has been replaced....anything else?
Thanks, BB (I wish it were Autumn red.... how much to paint..just wishing)

Find out if the timing belt and other belts have been replaced.
If they haven't, either have the dealer do it before you buy it or do it your self shortly after. If the dealer can't tell you if they've been replaced, find a good independant mechanic to check it out, I'm assuming he should be able to tell if they are good or not - especially if you ask him to look at them.
If you have the dealer replace them, they'll probably mark up the price a little, but it would probably be worth it.
