Default Can I put an S4 instrument cluster in my A4?

I just purchased an unused S4 cluster [0 miles] and would like to swap it into my A4. Does anyone know how to input the new milege with a Vag-Com? Will there be any compatibility issues with the instuments or should it be plug and play?

Thanks,

Erik

Default what year is you A4...

if you A4 is between 96-99 then you will have problem because of Can-Bus not present in A4, it started in 99.5 modell..

Default CAN-BUS can be purchased and installed separately however...

There's info somewhere on this site about what you need to install a CAN-BUS.

http://www.tvwiz.net/navigation/</a

Default I have a 98.5 A4

Take a look at the auction page. It states that the cluster is 1998 1999 model year. Let me know your thoughts.

http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=2479506991&ssp agename=STRK%3AMEWN%3AIT</a

Default What does it matter that the cluster is 98/99 model year?

That's the year it was on the S4, has nothing to do with what years it might work to swap it to the A4.

Default can-bus is the data bus line

the newer A4's have this to transmit data between things like the radio and the instrument cluster.

Default My instument cluster has the radio data in the lcd

Does this mean I have can-bus? I may have made a mistake in purchasing this cluster. If it doesn't work it will be back on eBay I suppose.

Default can-bus can't be purchased,

I think you relate to TMC/CAN gateway which is box for navigation that you can connect other devices to it
