Kevin, just buy a breaker bar & socket

I got mine at www.harborfreight.com.

Or get the Gorilla extendable lug wrench from TireRack.

Get a nice burly torque wrench and a socket. That's what I use......

I got a really heavy duty one from sears. Torque wrench and breaker bar all in one.

KEVIN97A4 11-19-2002 07:35 AM

thanks pete..you got the 18 inch one correct?

Pelican Pete 11-19-2002 07:36 AM

I got a set of bars which includes the 18" and 25"

Those lug bolts come off REAL easy with the 25" breaker bar!! :-)
I leave the 18" in the car, and the 25" at home with the rest of my tools.

THe set was only $13.99 plus shipping.

Harbor Freight has a 1/2" torq wrench for $25, get that

They also sell a nice 3 piece metric socket set for lug bolts, has 17, 19, and 21mm sizes. It's costly at $20'ish but it has a nice box and they are thin walled sockets.

I thought using a torque wrench as a breaker wasn't good

I heard it can throw off the calibration. same w/ storing it set, I always back it to 0 ft/lbs after using it.

djnelsen 11-19-2002 08:01 AM

It works fine as long as the torque wrench can handle the torque.......

when using it as a breaker, I crank it all the way up.

Your calibration will not last long if you use your torque wrench as a breaker bar.
