Default CEL's galore... mostly Efficiency Below Threshold

I'm driving a PES G2 2.8, for starters.

Been getting this CEL for quite some time. They used to come every couple weeks but now it is usually within the hour of clearing. Yesterday, I swapped the GIAC chip with a stock one to get a TSB flash that some on AW said stopped this CEL. The TSB can be found here:

It's supposed to eliminate DTC's. Today, on the commute home I got another CEL. So, I'm kinda against the wall with further ideas. I don't want to live with this CEL.

16805 - Warm Up Catalyst; Bank 1: Efficiency Below Threshold
P0421 - 35-00 - -
16815 - Warm Up Catalyst; Bank 2: Efficiency Below Threshold
P0431 - 35-10 - - - Intermittent
Readiness: 0000 0000

I am due for a fluids change, and some new plugs. I run the el-cheapos NGK (BRK6E or something) and regap to .28. I don't think this will solve it as it hasn't in the past... but I'm willing to try any ideas.

One last thing, in the early morning start-up... the car will making a ticking noise coming from right in front of the passenger, in front of the fire wall. Is it likely I have a leak in the exhaust system?

Default Ticking is probably an exhaust leak

Check your oil though. As for the IC recall, I have done quite a few of those to 2.8 30Vs, but I don't see how thats going to help you with a supercharged engine....I'd put the chipped software back in it, and take it out for a good romp and get those cats nice and hot. Then get out the VAG-Com and run the tests in blocks 034,035,046 and 047. 046 and 047 are the catalyst efficiency tests.

Default Well, to run the catalyst efficiency tests

engine RPMs have to come up to around 2200-2600 RPM and has to be held there while the test is running. Field 4 of the VAG will either say Test ON or Test OFF, simply bring the engine revs up and hold there until test ON disappears and is either replaced with CatB1OK/CatB2OK or NOT OK.

If I had to pick a gasket that would be leaking on the exhaust, it would be the manifold/catalyst gasket.

u can do the spark plug non fouler fix for the efficiency below threshold works like a charm

Default the IC recall is for ..

the IC recall is an update on the 2.8 because it is so sensitive the Catalyts are failing readiness.
after you get the update and no fix maybe you just have bad cataylsts and both needs replacement.
bank 2 pre-cat O2 sensor prob has bad elec. connections.
