Check engine light
My 2001.5 A4q check engine light came on yesterday. Manual says if it blinks, do not drive as you may honk up the calalytic converter. It does not blin, just stays on. Not convenient to give car up for any time this week. Any bad experiences with driving with this warning light on?

Just gas up? loose gas cap can cause this, and its just a "warning"...
it might even go out by itself...
if the car feels ok, you should be ok.

My check engine light comes on with the slightest misfire usually caused by...
starting, stopping and immediately restarting the engine. Something one might do when backing out of the garage to wash it for instance. My theory is that an overly rich mixture pre-detonates causing misfire. The check engine light stays on for three days and then resets itself. If you noticed a misfire or rough idle at some time after starting/stopping then this could be your problem. Otherwise you might want to check it out. Check engine is usually an emissions fault.
