Check Engine Light On???

Default Check Engine Light On???
I just bought my car a week ago and the "check engine light" went on almost right away. The car has approximately 36,000 on it??? Any guesses as to what it may be. For further clarification... It passed smog with the light on. The mechanic didn't care about the light being on and the computer doing the test passed it.

Default Sometimes the gas cap is not tight - it is the common cause.
It should go off if you correct the cause after a few days.

is it the actual gas cap or the "flap" to the gas compartment

Default The cap not being tightened enough.
If you can find someone with a VAG tool they can check the code. If not. Tighten the cap and wait a few days.
