Check Engine light!? why?

i came up to the first oil change since i bought my 97 2.8 quattro..well actually it was about 1000miles early, i wanted to change it..so i did.
well the milage that i SHOULD have changed it came around and a LED on the dash keeps blinking 'oil' no big deal i figure, i'll just ignore it..well then the CEL came on and won't go off..i had the battery unplugged for a while today but the CEL came back on again..is there anyway to shut it off or should i just get use to driving around with that light on?
and i'm not going to pay a dealer 50bucks every 4Kmiles to chut off the light either.

i know!!

well the check engine will store a code for havign lower voltage once you remove your battery...

no worries just use a VAG tool to reset that and check for other codes...

The oil service reminder, if ignored, won't trip a CEL all by itself. You need to VAG it to see what

code is set.

i don't have a VAG tool!

please don't tell me that means i have to pay a dealer to look at it!

Anyone close by with a VAG Com?

i found a few and contacted them..thanks.....

i had recently put in a custom cold air intake..i happend to unplug the MAF, and then reconnect while the battery was still connected and i think that might be the problem..it's happened to me the first week i had the car..if i remember correctly, i unplugged the battery, then disconnected the MAF, plugged it back in and THEN reconnected the battery and everything was ok..i'll probably try that this weekend and see if that might fix my problem.
