Chip Question
Hey Everyone,
Quick question, now I know that you can chip the car and get more power and torque and fun and what not. But how long can I go with a chip without doing exhaust? I hear that you should do the exhaust after you get chip to make the car breathe better/easier, but how long? I have enough for a chip right now, but it will probably be awhile before I have enough to buy a good exhaust, so is there any real problem with just running chips for several months, even up to 1 year with everything else stock? Thanks again guys

You don't need to do an exhaust after chipping at all. It will just give you more power if you do.
In fact, I did not have a good experience putting an exhaust on my old A4 -- it gave more power, but it was louder and caused some mechanical problems.
At any rate, yes, you can go ahead and chip your car without any need for an exhaust.

it's not an absolute necessity
yes it would be nice to have a larger cat back (including dp_ exhaust than the stock one but it isn't critical when your chipped or stock
when you go the bigger turbo route (k04 , apr SIII , T28 , etc.) then a full exhaust 2.5 - 2.75" becomes pretty important to have.
For just a chip all you reall need is to upgrade your stock bpv to at least a tt 710n one

there's absolutely nothing wrong with running a chip without exhaust
in fact, unless you go k04 or big turbo or something, an exhaust is not <i>that</i> helpful. with just a chip, the exhaust would be more for looks and sound.
