Clicking sound on cold start in the engine is worse than ever. Is this a bleed valve or something?

You might want to check your service receipts, sometimes dealers put
10w30 in the car. This WILL cause the noise to be more pronounced when you first start the car. The dealer put 10w30 in my 2.8 A6 at the first oil change and wow, was it noisy at startup. I made them change out the oil and put in 5w30 and the noise was back to normal.

FWIW, I use 10W30...
It's a good weight for the cold, wintery days in upstate NY. And oh, I don't get the clicking noise. (Valve chatter?)
Audi_2000/1.8, have you done anything recently to your car before the noise became more pronounced?

It is the opposite in cold weather.
I am surprised that you have good luck with it. 10w30 should not be used in that type of weather. I am in Cleveland and would never put anything less than 5w30 in the 2.8A6 and 0w40 in the S4. It is valve clatter when the engine starts from cold because the pump takes longer to send the oil where it is needed at startup. If 10w30 works for you, that's great, I would not put that in when all newer Audis come with the factory fill as 0w40 Mobil 1.

I agree that you want a thinner oil for cold weather...
...but the pour point for the oil I use (AMSOil) is -70, far below that of conventional oils. Since AMSOil can be run upwards of 20k miles before changing, I've found that 10W30 is a good weight for both winter and summer climates.
I agree though that if running a conventional oil, 10W30 in the cold would be a bad thing. Running a Synthetic such as Mobil 1 during the winter would not be bad persay, as it's properties are fine for the cold, but there's no point since the change interval is much shorter so you can run a dedicated summer and winter oil.
Basically I just kinda doubt that Audi_2000/1.8's problem is oil related, but as always, I reserve the right to be wrong!
