Compatible ECU's

I have an early model '97 1.8TQ and am thinking about changing/upgrading the ECU. What year audi cars are compatible? E.G Can I seemlessly install a '99 ECU without having to do any major mods? Any help is appreciated

My orignial 97 ECU was a 8D0907558M.....

I was able to use a 8D0907557P from a 98 Passat and recode it for my Audi.

97 - 99 should be OK, 99.5 - 01.5 will not work...

check the part # of the ECU. You might have to recode for FWD vs AWD and Tip vs Manual.

99.5 will work, it is still nDBW

you only have to recode for manual or tip. Quattro and FWD are mechanically driven so no need to recode.
