Computer Problem
Had to replace the battery in a 1999 A4 2.8 Tip, now the engine will not work properly - dealer who is 300 miles away says to tow it in and have the computer reset - says the timing is probabally off.
Anyone with any suggestions?

Engine will not rev up, no power, will not idle with foot off the gas. Between 1500 & 2000 rpm the engine surges and sputters

First thing I would do...
Is try a Throttle Body adaption, you can do this by simply putting the key in the ignition and leaving it in the Acc/on position for about 5 mins.
Then start the car. If this doesnt work, disconnect the battery for about 15 mins, hook it back up and do the adaption again. If this doesnt solve the problem then you may have to get a tow.
Ive really never seen this kind of thing happen with no TBA but its worth a try.
