constant 13's? aftermarket turbo?

Hey guys, I must warn you ahead of time, I am new to the european scene, so please do not get very technical when answering this question. I use to be into honda/acura, and no I wasn't a ricer :). I could never put any big wings, million stickers, or such on my car. Couldn't afford it..j/k. Sorry for the digression, but now on to my real question. I plan on getting a 97+ a4 1.8t quattro. I was wondering what would be the best way to get this luxurious machine to constant 13 1/4 miles. I'm guessing a turbo upgrade would be the best choice, but since I am a newbie I'm not sure which ones are the best to get. I have been trying to do searches the past couples days, and couldn't find anything specific. I would prefit it be a "kit" with everything. Thank you for reading this long post, and would appreciate anymore info you could give me.

Also I have read the 1st thing I should change is the exhaust, because it is very restrictive with bigger turbos. Thank you again.

Pull the engine and put in a chevy ls1.

APR is always in the top right hand side of this page/forum.

Now with the APR Stage III kit, would I need anything else with the kit, to make sure it is reliable? Also how reliable is this kit for street use? I will rarely be going to the track, I just want a fun car to drive :). I should get a bigger intercooler for this correct? And what brand would you guys suggest? Also I should get an exhaust right away too, and also what names would you suggest for that too. Sorry again for all of my questions, but I want to make sure I do this right, and not go cheap and have a blown engine :(. thanks again inadvance

Can get exhaust from APR. SIII is designed to work with stock IC.

Re: constant 13's? aftermarket turbo?

So If I get the Stage III, I can leave the stock intercooler, but I should get the APR exhaust, are there any other good brands for exhaust? So all I would need is the stage III kit, and the exhaust, and I will be able to run it for awhile with it still being reliable? Also how much does it cost to have a turbo installed? Sorry I have never had it done before...thanks again for all your help!

Why not wait for the PES kit to come out. What year is your car.

Re: Why not wait for the PES kit to come out. What year is your car.

I don't have the car yet. I will be buying in a few months, but I want to get all the info I can before hand so I don't make a mistake. What is the PES kit? Have any links to it?thanks

CMH 07-29-2001 10:21 PM

The PES kit will have a T28 that will put out between 265 and 300 hp

Here is a link to their web site.

http://www.pes-tuning.com/</a

Just make sure when you get an exhaust

to go for a complete cat back system. Many only go from the downpipe. The A4 is different because it runs turbo > Cat > Downpipe > Exhaust, whereas most cars the downpipe comes before the cat. I would recommend staying with one brand when working on the engine. Everything is tuned to work together, so it may be best if you go APR for the turbo upgrade, to get the exhaust from them. BTW, their exhaust IS catback.

Is there a flow volume difference between the T-28 and GT-25? Ball bearing too?

EdP 07-30-2001 03:29 PM

Now THAT is a mod for the cover of Max Power.

CMH 07-30-2001 04:09 PM

Yes there is. The T28 is larger and has a more agrisive wheels.

Think of it this way. The GT25 is about the same size as a 2g DSM Eclipse and the first step up for a turbo is a T28.

BOOSTD 07-30-2001 05:15 PM

that confuses the matter a bit...

Check out this link; as you can see, there are many variants of the GT25, and the SMALLEST is based off a T3 turbo. You'd have to compare the right T28 to the right GT25.

http://www.turbocharged.com/gtbb.htm</a

Now that I have some more info, How about reliability?

How can I make this turbo kit very reliable for the street? As I said I will BARELY be going to the track, this car is just for a fun car, but my only car :). So I cant have it braking down a lot. I know I will need a turbo timer and such, what gauges should I get to make sure my turbo is running right? Also anything else you guys recommend upgrading? I want to do the turbo and exhaust all at one time to get it done with :)

WYSIWYG 07-30-2001 08:32 PM

oil =). have a backup of the new bpv

CMH 07-30-2001 10:42 PM

Ok you show us a chart for all the GT25's but dont tell which one is used for the stage 3 kit.

BOOSTD 07-31-2001 03:25 AM

that's easy....I don't know which one is used. Which T28 does PES use?

I was only proving a point, that you can't assume a T28 is larger than a GT25, which you apparently have.
