toying with the idea
i purchased a 5" widescreen lcd and a mini itx motherboard the other day. i already wrote a custom unix-based mp3 player for my previous car mp3 project so I'm thinking of adding mpeg support so it can play music videos or dvds as well. check out <A href="http://www.mp3car.com/">www.mp3car.com</a> for more inspiration

I have a 1998 and I installed a xenarc 7" touchscreen in the dash custom molded. I fitted a slim dvd/cdrw drive where the buttons are located. I have the computer mounted under the rear deck. If I include the time that I researched, the entire project has taken me 5 months so far but I havent been working on it everyday, mostly on weekends. When I first took apart the dash, I asked myself WTF was I doing. I actually asked myself that alot while I was cutting/bondo/mounting/drilling during many stages of this project. It all cost quite a bit too, upwards of 1400-1500 dollars. If you need any help or advice on what to buy, I'm sure I can help; just email me.

I have a 01 1.8T and am looking to put a 7" in place of the stock deck, and most likely a pc in either the glove box or the truck. Have looked at Xenarc, but still looking for other ideas. Can the aftermarket deck fascia work with a screen?
