If you change it to the US standard, it is confusing... this is like the ISO standard >>>
1-18-00 is confusing since in the US this means January, 18, 00 (likely 2000 :-) ).
This is fine, but what if the day was less than or equal to 12? Well confusion happens (don't forget, the web is international. For example 1-12-00 may mean January 12 or maybe mean December 1st depending on where you are from.
In the US, people typically use month-day-year. In Canada, we generally use day-month-year. Both are potentially confusing and can be mis-interpretted.
So, the better technique is to follow what Audiworld is using: year-month-day so there is no confusion (once you learn it perhaps). Moving from largest to smallest from year to day.. and of course using a 4-digit year makes things pretty clear.
Also, it's not a British thing... it just makes sense.
