You don't need to, unless you slow yourself to stall speed.
If you yank the brake and lock the rear wheels with Quattro, it assumes the fronts are slipping, and tries to send more engine torque to the rear wheels. If it can't overcome the brakes, you'll stall the engine. But with FWD, your engine will not be fighting the e-brake directly, so that issue won't happen.

It pulls on the rears and will lock up all four throught the Quattro system if you leave it on enough.
I use it sometimes with me foot flat on the floor and sometimes with a little clutch kick action for rallyx rotation. (On the dirt) So far no ill side effects after 3 seasons. Except for a broken oil pan.
