Drivetrain problems, part two.
Results:
The drivers side CV boot is torn, but there is only a tiny bit of play (like 1mm) in the axle if I pull in/push out. There is no play front to back or up and down. I checked the two transmission mounts up front, and they seemed fine.
But when I turned the front axles by hand and put torque on the driveshaft that goes to the rear of the car, I heard a clinking coming from the very center of the car. Right behind the post cat oxygen sensors and just underneath the heat shield that runs down the length of the car in the middle, there is some sort of joint in the driveshaft. I couldn't see it well, but there was a loose metal noise coming from that joint. I have a feeling this is what is causing the clicking under moderate torque and the creaking like an old floorboard under higher torque.
I thought the noise could be coming from the CV, but there is relatively little noise coming while turning compared to under heavy acceleration.
What is this joint, and how much of a PITA is it to replace?
Bearing cost something like $150 from blauparts
or you can keep your eye open for a used prop shaft
mine has been bad for quite a while(like 8 months i think) got to get it fixed soon.
hope you have a lift<ul><li><a href="http://www.blauparts.com/">http://www.blauparts.com/</a</li></ul>
heat shield hiting shaft
loose bracket
ect
did you get any vibration when accelerating at low speeds?
my guess is one of the joint's is dry.
All sounds stop when there is no torque on the drivetrain (e.g coasting in neutral, braking, engine revving in neutral).
I might just have to drop the exhaust tomorrow and figure this out.

At that price, the real PITA is going to be getting the rusty exhaust clamp bolts loose.
