Default Doesn't matter...it's basic stuff.

<center><img src="http://pictureposter.audiworld.com/2062/secairvalve.jpg"></center><p>It will work the same way in the 2.8 engine. Bentley is telling me that you need to remove (or push aside) the coolant expansion tank to access the sec. air valve.

Default Not so fast...

As usual, the Bentley manual sucks, and so does my interpretation of it. There appear to be two combination valves (the pic I posted). The left one is under the coolant tank, the right one is near the air filter housing (I think attached to the box). The third component is the secondary air pump, which is accessed from underneath the car (there should be a hose that runs to the airbox for the right side combination valve. Bentley states that the belly pan and front bumper need to be removed. Here is a crappy picture of what the Bentley CD is talking about.
<img src="http://pictureposter.audiworld.com/2062/secairpump.jpg">

The combi valves are both connected to the pump via hoses. It appears to be a "Y" hose...on single hose running out of the pump, but eventually splitting to two, each end running to a combi valve. Additionally, there are small vacuum lines from the combi valves that run to a secondary air injection solenoid valve (N112). According to my previous post, check all those hoses.

There may also be a failure of the pump itself. Do you hear it pumping on cold starts?

Default Air injected to exhaust for emmissions

most likely, you've got a broken vacuum line, I suggest replacing them with silicone lines, you can do it all yourself for a couple bucks and an afternoon.

Default The combination valves are directly behind the cylinder heads, fyi

they can be hard to reach, but if you unbolt the coolant tank, and have small hands, you can get back there to replace the hoses.
