Default ECM failure on chipped A4

Be advised. The ECM on my chipped (Wett) '01 A4 Avant just failed at 44K miles and the dealer will not honor the warranty. Cost for the new ECM including installation, and this is a discounted price: $775. No arguing with them. My logic: it's a software change and your hardware failed. They're logic: you changed the car, voided the warranty, you're SOL. If anyone has had an altrnative experience I wouldn't mind hearing about it.

Default i'm guessing you mean ECU

just buy another one off the AW classifieds for cheaper than that and install it yourself.

Buy a used ECU from either a junk yard or from classifieds here and have the Wett switched into it.

Default Make sure it's not just a worn socket.

I had an ECU problem and took it back to where I get my software and they just resoldered it for me, as one of the pins had become loose.

Default What Mikey said...

mail the ECU back to Wett first. Let them check it out...re-test it in your car, and there is a good chance it will work fine. Sometimes you get a bad solder when an aftermarket chip is installed...and sometimes it takes a while before the problem becomes apparent.

If that doesn't fix it...and you need a new ECU, email me. I know someone that has a spare ECU lying around. Email me the part number on your factory ECU so we can make sure it matches.

Default I had my socket resoldered, and a new encrypter put in..

that fixed my problem. Send it back to the tuner who did the work and have them work on it. that is what I did (matrix engineering in portland, OR... they are AWESOME)

Great recommendation! Seems to be multiple choices: engine code ATW, AWM; w & w/o ESM; AT, MT. Not familiar w/ these distinctions. Any direction? Thanks.
