efk worth it?
from what i've read in the archives, the fan that the efk replaces only comes on when the a/c is on.
i never use the a/c when i'm moving (only if i'm sitting in 100 degree heat in bumper-to-bumper traffic) and the only times i've ever heard this fan come on is if i have the a/c on (or shortly after i turn it off). is it worth it for me to buy this kit? seems like it's only useful if you drive with the a/c on frequently. |
Definately worth it...
as for the fan coming on when the AC is on.. I think you are mistaken with the fans. The fan replacing is a clutch driven unit which spins when the engine gets hot. This is what robs the engine of HP as it creates a load on the engine. With the EFK installed you completely remove the fan clutch.

hey josh, i have one that's been lying around my house all year.
let me know if you want it.

Honestly though...how much energy does it take to propel the fan/
clutch assembly? How many hp are you realistically getting back from this mod?

.5

currently waiting for mine, so i hope it's worth it...
i bought to change while I'm doing timing belt, as i'm in there already. protly wouldn't if i wasn't doing TB. as far as the fan situation, the clutch fan is on WHENEVER your motor is running...this is the fan replaced with the electric fan kit. the 2nd fan turns on w/ ac or at high temps, this fan remains.

I'm definately sure it is not enough to make that much of a difference....
however.. if you would like to look at a real world situation.
You: Clutch fan still installed driving the Audi at XX speed turn on AC. Power goes signifigantly down. You: w/ EFK same situation turn on AC less power drain. less of a power drain = happy A4 owner. |
isn't it more of a 'feeling' kind of mod? like the car will drive better with it, not really for
power gains?
|
The AC compressor saps a hell of a lot more power though...
|
But AC with fan clutch spinning vs. AC with no fan clutch?
