Electric Fan
I have a 1997 A4 Quattro. I have noticed twice this sumemr the needle that shows engine heat has gone a little past the halfway point, I have never seen it even at the halfway point. My car has a new Thermostat as of December. I notice that the heat has gone up after I shut off the car and came back to it soon after. Does Audi have an electric fan that will turn on even when the car is off? I have never heard one turn on in my car.

why this is 'normal'>>>>
the fan kicks in to keep the temp at the halfway point. when you shut the car off, there's no fan to modulate that temp, and if you come back to it before the engine itself has shed some heat, the gauge will immediately show slightly higher temp BUT the fan will know to kick in now that it has power, and you'll be at mid-range momentarily, with no harm.
