Engine Stalling
I'm having problems with my 96 A4 2.8Q in that while driving along and pushing the clutch in, the engine will periodically die. This also happens when the engine is trying to idle when stopped. I have cleaned the ICV but the problem only went away for a few days. Any suggestions would be helpful. Thanks.

Did you check the ristence of the ICV across the terminals? It shouldn't be more than 11 Ohm.
Check <b>all</b> vaccum hoses. I had one bad vac hose suck dirt in the ICV! Make sure that one vac hose that goes from the plenum to the throttle body hasn't fallen off.
You may also want to clean the MAF sensor.
Make sure your spark plug wires (check resistence) and spark plugs are good.

Common problem on 12 valve..long
First I suggest you visit the 12V forum. It's a hidden forum dedicated to the 12v V6 motors that were used in the late 90's and early A4's.Lot of people have dealt with this issue including myself. As you have cleaned the ICV ,I assume you checked the motor resistance using an ohm meter. I would suggest cleaning the MAF and replacing all of the vacuum lines. This should cost less than $10 for about 6 feet of 3mm vacuum hose.The only one you can't replace is the one that does thru the firewall to the AC. There is one particular hose that is hard to see and goes from the throttle body engine side (large butterfly) to the plenum.This hose is frequently very brittle and leaks, in addition the brass port on the throttle body cokes up which can cause issues with idle. There are other things you can do including removing and cleaning the Throttle Body (takes about 30 minutes)If your car has done more than about 75Kmiles you should consider cleaning the EGR passage.Failing all that you may have to replace the ICV with a new one.<ul><li><a href="https://forums.audiworld.com/12v/pages/1.phtml">12v forum</a></li></ul>
