Engine start issue......idle rpm fluctuation
Guys,
I noticed this a while ago and it happens sporadically.....but during a cold start, or during a start after letting the car sit in the garage for 3 or more days, the car's rpm will fluctuate (along with the engine note naturally) up and down couple of hundred rpm's around 1,200rpm. It will usually go away by itself or after I give it a little gas. After all these, the car will drive normally and does not display a loss of power or even emit a hint of abnormal noise.
Some stats:
- live in WI.....cold.....although car is in garage (non heated)
- car's been slowly leaking oil and dripping on garage floor, although the dip stick said the level is fine. Dealer thought it's oil pan gasket that's at fault. Determined that's not the case but couldn't find any other leaks. Put dye in oil and told me to return next time and they'll shine an UV light to see where it drips out from
Any clues? Would it be the computer module that controls the idling speed?
Advice/suggestions welcomed! Thanks.

Could need a throttle body cleaning or there might be a vacuum leak
Check all your hoses, your connection to your MAF sensor, and see if the throttle body is clean.

There had been cases when it fluctuates mildly so that's what that was.....
But 2 hrs ago when I started her up after sitting there for 4 days, the engine sounded like it couldn't breathe.

The car is getting to 5yrs old and I doubt if the throttle body ever gets cleaned......
So I can bring that up to the dealer. Thanks.
Vacuum leak.....my thinking is that if there's a leak, it should always show its traits and I will get that every start up, right? I will keep an eye on that.....
