Engine swap
I have a 2001 a4, 2.8L, quattro...
In a couple years or so I'm going to be swapping out my (high km) engine for a rebuilt. This got me thinking... has anyone here swapped out the 2.8 for one of the S4 engines?
I know I'll need to change the ecu, wiring harness... but what about the trany?

yea it definitely has been done, but everyone on here will advise you to just buy a b5 S4. There not even that expensive nowadays and by the time u drop in a 2.7t, tranny, rear diff., and figure out the wiring nightmare it will probably cost you more than a used b5 s4.

wiring is not that bad. It really depends on if its cut, If you can find a a motor with complete wiring to ecu, then your set. it should bolt up right to the 5 speed. max you will spend is about 3000$ on motor and wiring.
Of coarse I dont know prices of S4 2.7t,
For some reason Subaru Wrx or sti motors are expensive... I would spend just 2500$ on motor and wiring... thats if I find a good deal, a whole tranny set up with axles and motor and wiring and everything, is 6900$ I dont think a S4 is that much but yea... you could get a S4 but I tried looking for one but could never find one close to me always on the other side of the country.. anyways good look!
