explain...and chip

so i had till the end of june to take the emissions test...i have no cat...straight pipe turbo down...check engine light was on...clearted the codes...drove around for a lil bit...came on..and came back off next day...went to take emissions...and passed...? wtf...i luv it but seems a lil confusing...but anyway...i have MBC right now and it has contributed some gains...but I was thinking of getting a chip...is the APR the one to get...or is there other ones out there that compare...( i have a 2.5" exhaust...no cats, mbc (up a few psi) )

I passed like that also...

I had a straight exhaust on my 89 Jetta..hollow Cat. I thought for sure I would not pass. The guy who did it told me VW/Audi cars should pass most times even with no cat at all! He said he has never had one not pass. Mine passed with the hollow cat and the numbers were actually good. As far as the chip..I have an AMS chip in the A4. I've had the chip from early 97-now with no problems...although I have received a couple software updates over the years.
